Well it all
came down to the GNCC finale held at Loretta Lynn's Ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN
this past weekend. There was tons of hype surrounding the battle for 1st in XC1
and XC2 classes but there was also a great battle for 3rd in the XC1 class
between Team WMR KTM/Nihilo Concepts rider Rory Mead and Shenandoah
Honda rider Thad Duvall.
With Rory
only a few points ahead of Thad, Rory had to stay close and finish strong at the
final round. Duvall has been on a roll since returning from the ISDE 6 days
international enduro and Mead knew he had to bring his A game.
Mead got a
mid pack start and worked his way up to as high as 3rd at one point, but faded a
bit towards the end allowing Duvall to pass him. This forced the team to compute
the numbers to figure out where Rory needed to finish to grab that 3rd place
overall for the championship. Rory put his head down and stayed in a comfortable
6th place which was good enough for that impressive 3rd place in the
championship hunt!
This marks
WMR KTM/Nihilo Concept's highest finishing position in the GNCC championship
points since our inception. "We are very excited and proud of Rory and the
whole team. For us to be in the top three with all the factory teams is where we
want to be and strive for. The whole WMR crew is excited and looking forward to
next years season to continue to grow on our success" Says WMR KTM owner
Bob Brewster.
In addition
to Rory's success, Team WMR KTM/Nihilo Concepts XC2 rider Chris Douglas
continued to get used to his new class and finished another impressive 6th
place. This was a great way for Chis to know what to work on over the off-season
and be a contender next year in the highly competitive XC2 class.
Every year
the GNCC offers a Venders Challenge class for industry personnel to give the
Loretta's GNCC a try. This Year WMR KTM/Nihilo Concepts assisted FMF's race and
media relations, ex-Arenacross racer Jeff Northrop to redeem himself after last
years defeat. This year we mounted him up on a GNCC race ready WMR/Nihilo
Concepts KTM 350SXF.
Without any
prior testing or practice, Jeff took off against the top industry racers and
battled his way to the top, winning the class with a commanding lead. His flow
on the bike was amazing to watch and showed the large GNCC crowd some Arenacross
flair through the Loretta's mx portion of the track. "I had a blast all day!
I came out to support all our FMF riders for the final GNCC, and the WMR/Nihilo
guys were generous to offer me a class act bike that allowed me to enjoy two
hours of pure trail ridding fun!" says Northrop.
