Yoshimura riders made their way to the picturesque motocross track in Washougal, Washington for Round 8 of the 2013 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship. Perfect weather conditions, and an immaculately prepared racetrack greeted the riders as they lined up to battle it out against the top riders from all over the world.
The Yoshimura-backed GEICO Honda squad were front-runners at Washougal. Eli Tomac posted an overall victory in the 250 class, by way of back to back moto wins. Tomac slipped into the lead right away in Moto 1, taking the position away from Yoshimura-backed Teammate Justin Bogle who was the holeshot winner. Tomac, with a clear track in front of him, checked out from the rest of the pack. He finished with a 20-second lead over 2nd place. In Moto 2, Eli Tomac once again dominated. He slipped into the lead on the first lap, and again checked out from the pack. Coincidentally, he finished again with a 20-second lead over 2nd place. In the holeshot department, the Yoshimura-backed GEICO rider Justin Bogle snagged the first holeshot, and teammate Wil Hahn grabbed the next holeshot. In both motos, the top positions off the start were dominated by the Yoshimura-powered GEICO Honda machines. GEICO riders Justin Bogle, Zach Osborne, and Wil Hahn would post overall finishes of 4th, 6th, and 12th, respectively. Eli Tomac, after his victory at Washougal, sits in 2nd place in the Championship points, just 1 point shy of overtaking the lead. Osborne, Bogle, and Hahn currently sit 5th, 7th, and 17th, respectively in the Championship points.
Yoshimura-backed Muscle Milk Honda rider Justin Barcia, motored out of the gate in 450 Moto 1, and started the race off in 2nd. He held that position throughout most of the race, until a mishap through a hard right-hander gave the spot over to Yoshimura Suzuki's James Stewart. Barcia remounted in 4th, and hung on to that position to the finish. Justin Barcia could have hoped for a better Moto 2, but luck was not on his side this weekend, as he was unable to put together another top 5 finish. Teammate Trey Canard has a love/hate relationship with the Washington track, given his past 1-1 finishes, and a 2011 crash resulting in a broken femur. He was able to successfully finish both motos without any major drama. His 12-11 finishes would net him 12th overall. After Washougal, Justin Barcia sits 3rd in the Championship points, with Trey Canard sitting in 5th.
Yoshimura Suzuki's James Stewart rode the wheels off the number 7 machine; he put in a solid ride in Moto 1, taking 2nd from Barcia, and duking it out with Villopoto in the closing laps. James' daring speed earned him a 3rd place finish in the race. Moto number 2 saw James chase the leaders all the way to the checkers, for another solid 3rd place finish. His ultra consistent 3-3 finishes earned him the 3rd place overall, which landed him atop the podium. Stewart's latest podiums have him in 4th in the Championship points.
Yoshimura-backed RCH Suzuki rider Broc Tickle's performance at Washougal shows that he has the dedication to run up front. Broc finished 13th in Moto 1, and more than made up for it in the 2nd Moto with a 5th. His 2nd Moto finish was his best of the season. His overall placement was 9th, which matches his 9th place in the Championship points.
Yoshimura riders head next to Millville, Minnesota's Spring Creek Motocross park for Round 9 of the 2013 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.
