FIRST LOOK: 2013 HONDA CRF450R

At first glance the 2013 Honda CRF450R is nothing like the 2012 version, with new styling, new frame, new swingarm and a dual exhaust system.

NEW FOR 2013

  1.  All-new aluminum frame and swingarm
  2.  All-new lighter subframe and airbox.
  3.  All-new air fork – KYB PSF® (Pneumatic Spring Fork).
  4.  All-new rear shock with updated settings.
  5.  All-new short and compact dual-muffler exhaust system.
  6.  Bold new styling features an aggressive look.
  7.  Improved footpeg mount features a patented debris-shielding design.
  8.  All-new front and rear disc rotor covers.
  9.  All-new MX51FA 80/100-21 front tire.
  10.  Increased fuel capacity from 1.50 gallons to 1.66 gallons.
  11.  Updated Unicam® engine.
  12.  All-new piston with increased compression ratio (from 12.0:1 to 12.5:1).
  13.  New two-hole oil jet adds extra cooling to the piston’s underside.
  14.  Cylinder head with revised porting and larger exhaust valves (from 30mm to 31mm).-
  15.  Revised cam timing.
  16. All-new six-spring clutch design.
  17. Updated transmission.
  18. All-new radiators are mounted lower in the chassis.

The all-new twin-spar aluminum chassis was designed specifically to work with the CRF450R’s new air fork. The twin spars are lower to improve handling and to lower CG.

Air forks? Really?!? Something different on this air fork attempt than the 1976 era Yamaha mega-canister forks? Does the "new" Honda system have a methodology to cool the air in the heated forks. Or, don't the Honda Engineers beleive the fact of exactly what happens to air under friction/compression? Maybe Honda is offering an aircraft type air-to-air heat exchanger for the "new concept?' And exactly what aare we using to make the air pressure in the forks equal? Or again, maybe Honda doesn't see the need to do so?

Anyone wanna' pick it up from here on the "new" dual mufflers? Leftover parts from a recent yesteryear Honda?
